Just because you have oily and acne-prone skin doesn’t mean you have to dry it out. In fact, drying out acne-prone skin can cause dehydration, and likewise, the overproduction of oil. So, even if you have acne, don’t be afraid to moisturize your skin. It is 100% okay to moisturize when you have acne. Just make sure you’re using moisturizers that work for you. Here are a few that have worked for Cassandra.
Cocokind ceramide barrier serum - $21.99
This is a lightweight, ceramide moisturizer that doesn’t leave a thick feeling on your skin, If you’ve dried your acne-prone skin out, ceramides can help rebuild the skin barrier.
Ceramedx Ultra Moisturizing Natural Ceramide Cream- $18.99
This is another ceramide moisturizer that not only hydrates the surface but the deeper layers of your skin. This is a cruelty-free alternative to CeraVe, and it doesn’t break Cassandra’s acne-prone skin out. When she puts it on at night, it doesn’t feel heavy. She can go to bed with it, sleep with it, and when she wakes up in the morning, her skin feels so smooth, soft, and moisturized.
In addition to keeping your skin moisturized, it’s just as important to protect it with sunscreen, and sunscreens actually moisturize the skin too! However, when you’re acne-prone, sometimes it feels instinctual to avoid sunscreen. Breaking out is a legitimate worry, but sunscreen is a must. Sunscreen protects acne scars from turning into pigmentation. It’s so important to protect your skin from the sun, and below we have listed some acne-friendly sunscreens.
This sunscreen was made with acne-prone skin in mind. If you hate that greasy feeling, or you worry about sunscreen clogging your pores, this is such a good one. It's a lightweight and non-greasy formula in a serum dropper bottle. It's normally like $44, but you can find it on sale.
EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 - $41
Elta MD also has some really good sunscreen options for acne skin. They specifically have a sunscreen called the UV Clear. It's made with niacinamide, and it can help to regulate oily skin. It's one of Cassandra's personal favorites.
ISNTREE Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel
This is one of Cassandra's favorite for acne-prone skin. However, there are things it could improve on. She wished it was a little bit better for oily skin. However, the downsides of the product ended up leading to something very positive.
As some of you know, Cassandra was able to reach out to Isntree and share what she would change about the product, and eventually, she was able to collaborate and create The Purple Protector SPF. Not only is it a purple sunscreen that blends down invisibly, but it also has ingredients like red onion that help oily and acne-prone skin.
This SPF is one of Cassandra’s favorite sunscreens for oily-prone skin, and it took two years to make. This is made to support blemish-prone and scarred skin. It gives you a texture that is hydrated and glowy without being greasy.
So, remember you should still moisturize thoroughly when you have acne. It's just important to find formulas the work for oily and acne-prone skin.
