If The Met Gala Looks Were Skincare Products

The Met Gala is where celebrities go to show off their best fashion – but what if they weren’t celebrities, but skin care?

Allure put together all of the best looks from the 2021 Met Gala. But knowing that in this corner of the world we are obsessed with science, skin care products, and are suckers for good packaging, I wanted to pair each of these celebrity looks with their skin care product counterpart.

GEMMA CHAN

Allure said: With Anna Mae Wong, the first Chinese American actress, as a reference point, makeup artist Daniel Martin took 1920s makeup techniques and gave them 2021 twists by giving Chan's winged liner a chartreuse canvas, which was a pistachio shadow atop the L’Oréal Paris Brilliant Eyes liquid Eyeshadow in Crown Gold. Hairstylist Owen Gould took the inspiration one step farther with looped braids.

I’m no celebrity fashion police, but these braids are giving me handle vibes. The black and silver details scream elegance, and immediately remind me of Lancome Advanced Genifique Radiance Boosting Face Serum

LUPITA NYONG'O

Allure says: Just when we thought Lupita Nyong'o couldn't top her 2019 Met Gala look, she went and did just that. Inspired by Brooklyn-born conceptual artist Lorna Simpson, hairstylist Vernon François formed the actor's afro into tulle-like whirls. Makeup artist Nick Barose tied in the denim hues of Nyong'o's dress into her eye makeup with the Lancôme Hypnôse 5-Color Eyeshadow Palette in Bleu Hypnotique.

This stunning blue color immediately reminds me of Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream

KEHLANI

Allure says: Kehlani looked to her go-to hairstylist Kahh Spence for her fun flipped-out look. The key to her throwback blowout was a generous spritzing of the OGX Protecting + Silk Blowout.

Thermal Spray. Beneath the face-framing style, makeup artist Troye Antonio created a tangerine-toned look. We're loving Kehlani's bronzed rose flush, which Antonio dusted on with a combo of the Nars Dolce Vita Blush and Laguna Bronzer.

I say, Cruella De Vil is our favorite vocalist and musical sensation. This reminds me of the sleek Saturday Skin Pretty Pop Probiotic Power Whipped Cream.

CIARA

Allure says: When wearing a football jersey-inspired dress, it's only right to tie your hair into a ponytail. However, this is Ciara we're talking about, so the longer the hair is always the better. Her ultra-voluminous low pony — boosted with extensions and the Paul Mitchell Round Trip Curl Defining Serum —  fell past her waist in a caramel blonde hue, and her baby hairs were curled into intentional wispies by hairstylist Cesar DeLeon Ramirez.

This stunning bright green look reminds me of none other than the Byroe Bell Pepper Serum.

ZOEY DEUTCH

Allure says: Fresh off filming an influencer-centric movie, Zoey Deutch went just as trendy with her Met Gala makeup. Her lids were coated in a Y2K-era, holographic lilac shadow that echoed the iridescence of her beaded gown.

We’ve actually reacted to this gorgeous girls skin care routine! Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OceDwxqThag&t=6s

This purple reminds me of the gorgeous I Dew Care Sugar Kitten Hydrating Holographic Peel-Off Mask.

IMAN

Allure says: Of course, Iman had our jaws on the ground with her look. Designer Harris Reed created a larger-than-life headpiece for the iconic supermodel, which sat atop flowing, golden highlighted waves. Her ever so recognizable visage was decorated with emerald eye makeup and gold-toned nude lipstick.

Iman could blind us with this look! I say it reminds me of Physicians Formula 24-Karat Gold Collagen Oil.

LIL NAS X

Allure says: After last night's Jheri curled mullet moment at the VMAs, Lil Nas X focused his beauty pizzaz on the outer corners of his eyes with delicate, tiny gold arrows painted on by makeup artist Grace Pae.

I say, king vibes. Now bow down to royalty. This screams Cle De Peau Beaute La Creme Night Cream.

ELLA EMHOFF AND JULIA GARNER

Allure says: Ella Emhoff and Julia Garner presented a face gem extravaganza with their coordinating silver rhinestone looks concocted by artists from Pat McGrath's team. Emhoff framed her eyes with them, while Garner went with a faux winged liner look. All four cheekbones also featured the same petal-pink highlighter: Iridescent Pink 003 from the Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish: Sublime Skin Highlighting Trio.

I don’t know about you but I see the ICONIC skincare duo from L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Bright Reveal Dual Overnight Moisturizer. This serum combines two treatments together. The first one exfoliates with glycolic acid and the other one brightens the skin with vitamin C and retinol.

EMMA CHAMBERLAIN

Allure says: For her first time at the Met Gala, Emma Chamberlain brought '70s vibes along with her. Hairstylist Laura Polko gave the YouTube star retro flipped ends with the help of the  T3 Curl ID and the Aquage Finishing Spray.

Makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan, on the other hand, gave Chamberlian classic smoky eyes with groovy neon green accents — with Scylla from the Byredo Eyeshadow 5 Colour Palette in Syren — along Chamberlain's lash line and inner corners to echo the shimmery material of her bedazzled mini dress.

We also did a reaction video of her skincare routine! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugBnSc3KH0k&t=901s

She is serving Pixi Gold Luminous oil vibes. From the mirrored iridescent specks to the bright green details, these two both glow.

KEKE PALMER

Allure says: Keke Palmer also went the throwback route with ‘70s diva vibes, complete with voluminous Diana Ross curls, dramatic bronzed eye makeup, and gorgeous terracotta blush. We can’t take our eyes off the golden highlights around her lips, though. What an incredible touch to the entire gilded look.

She reminds me of Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Shimmering Moisture Fluid For The Body.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Although allure didn’t specifically cover these following looks, we thought they deserved some honorable mentions:

KARLIE KLOSS

The super model’s stunning red look reminds me of the luxurious SK-II Skinpower Essence Serum.

BILLIE EILLISH

The superstar singer’s rosy pink look reminds me of Paula’s Choice Reusable Cotton Rounds. These are the softest cotton pads I have ever tried! They remove all the makeup off and can be used to apply liquid products as well.

KIM KARDASHIAN

Kim’s all blacked out look reminds me of Raya Active Charcoal Deep Pore Cleanser & Mask

DANIEL LEVY

This fun indigo look reminds me of Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream Plumping & Hydrating Moisturizer.

KENDALL JENNER

Kendall Jenner Met Gala 2021

This gorgeous look from Kendall is a definite showstopper! It reminds me of Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum.

Overall, I have to admit - I am not familiar with the Met Gala or even half of these celebrities. I love music but haven’t watched a movie in decades. That being said, I use skincare every day. I re-organize my products, I dote over and enjoy different formulas and their iconic packaging. And to me, these Met Gala looks take me right back to the bathroom sink. Which of these do you think is the most accurate and enjoyable?
