Reviewing Laniege's Lip Mask: 5 Cruelty Free Alternatives

Is the Laneige Lip Mask Worth the hype? Based on the Sephora reviews, many people say that it actually breaks the skin out and doesn't hydrate the lips. Is this true? Let's get into it, and we'll also chat about some affordable and vegan options for lipmasks. We have some less expensive and more effective options that are cruelty-free.

Laneige charges $24 for this product which is not the worst lip mask, but it's definitely not the best lip mask. Let's get into the ingredients.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask - $24

The first ingredients are diisostearyl malate and malic acid which are not bad or toxic ingredients. They are somewhat moisturizing and help the product spread. There's also malic acid which is an exfoliating ingredient. We also have hydrogenated poly isobutane which functions as an oil base that allows the product to penetrate into the skin. In addition, there are plant sterols and sugars which help the skin retain hydration and calm down.

We also have shea butter and vitamin C which are great ingredients for conditioning (shea butter) the skin and providing antioxidants (vitamin C). But, on the other hand, there's tons of fragrance, color, and coconut oil. Coconut oil can be great for some, but for others, it can cause breakouts. This might be why so many people said that the lip mask gave them little pimples around their lips. This is not surprising because not everyone's skin can break down coconut. Overall, this product has good ingredients, but is it worth $24?

Well, the ingredients are nourishing to the skin, albeit not worth $24. The lip mask also offers an opaque, creamy texture. However, there is tons of fragrance and color within the product which can definitely be irritating to some. If you want something that has an amazing fragrance, the lip balm from Glow Recipe is a great option. Cassandra puts this one on at night, and when she wakes up, her lips feel so hydrated.

Glow Recipe Plum Plump Hyaluronic Acid Lip Gloss Balm - $22

This has vitamin C and hyaluronic acid which is phenomenal for the lips because it helps the skin to retain moisture. It also prevents that cycle of your lips getting drier and needing more and more lip balm over time. Hyaluronic lip products are fantastic, and many of them are formulated very welIt's so much better for the lips, and it's $22. But, what if you want something that is fragrance-free with nourishing ingredients? Well, Biossance has one of the best lip products that Cassandra has ever used. Their Rose Squalane Lip balm is fragrance-free, has rose wax, vitamin C, and plus, you don't have to stick your finger in it.

Biossance Squalane+ Rose Vegan Lip Balm - $16

Pacifica Lavender Moon Bedtime Lip Treatment - $13

This does the same thing, and it's half the price. Pacifica also has better brand values than Laniege. Pacifica was founded by a woman who wanted to create a sustainable skincare line with nourishing and gentle ingredients. Pacifica donates to clean water conversation, and it's fully recyclable.

Tatcha Camellia Gold Spun Japanese Lip Balm - $30

This is a little more lightweight. So, if you don't want something as thick as the others, this Tatcha lip balm is lightweight, hydrating, and very pretty. This is a solid choice if you have gotten breakouts around your lips or have gotten dry lips from lip balms.
